Morelia City Tour

Exploring Morelia’s City Centre

Morelia is a gem among Mexican cities, originally designed for Spanish settlers, with a fresh and modern approach to colonial urban planning.

As you stroll through its streets, you’ll encounter over 1,000 historical buildings, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1991. The city’s distinctive architecture, characterized by its restrained baroque style, offers a harmonious blend of European and indigenous influences.

Morelia’s relaxed atmosphere invites you to enjoy a leisurely coffee or tea under the arches of its grand portals, with views of the majestic cathedral. You can explore its many free museums, immerse yourself in the arts at its remarkable cultural centres, and visit the continent’s first Music Conservatory.

Itinerary

  • On this 3-hour walking tour, we will meet at the Hotel Mision and begin exploring the history of this capital city with a visit to the Governor’s Palace. Inside, you’ll discover stunning courtyards adorned with mural art from the 1940s.
  • Next, we’ll walk to the Cathedral, the city’s main attraction, home to a magnificent organ with over a thousand pipes and several remarkable pieces of art.
  • Our journey continues to “Las Rosas,” the first convent in Valladolid, featuring a church with gilded altarpieces and the continent’s first Music Conservatory.
  • We’ll then visit the Jesuit Monastery, known for its beautiful courtyard and solar clock, followed by stops at the Public Library and the historically significant First College of Higher Studies in the Americas.
  • We’ll wrap up our tour with a stroll through the main square, where you can enjoy a traditional Morelian gazpacho, made from fresh seasonal fruits, before heading off for lunch.
